Massive PP rally demands immediate elections in Madrid

On Sunday, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, leader of Spain's Popular Party (PP), called on Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez to "surrender to democracy" and hold elections immediately. Speaking before tens of thousands gathered at Plaza de España in Madrid, Feijóo expressed confidence in his readiness to replace Sánchez.

Feijóo claimed around 100,000 people filled the square and nearby streets, though government sources estimated half that number. He urged Sánchez to stop hiding and lying, and to allow Spaniards to decide their future through elections. "No one voted for this government to act this way," Feijóo asserted, pledging to lead a "revolution of decency and freedom."

The PP leader paid tribute to former party presidents Fraga, Aznar, and Rajoy, emphasizing his commitment to uphold Spain’s constitution and defend national unity. Feijóo stressed his position in the political center and vowed to restore the party’s prominence, aiming not only to win but also to govern.

Addressing the crowd, Feijóo outlined core values: honesty in public service, judicial independence, free media, respect for security forces, and defense of honest workers. He denounced corruption and government manipulation, calling for unity among citizens to reclaim decency and democracy.

Feijóo condemned the current government for eroding institutions and freedoms, warning that Spain is not a property to be controlled by a corrupt elite. He called for peaceful change through civic engagement and democratic processes, encouraging all honest Spaniards to join this movement.

The rally was also attended by former Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy, who arrived during Feijóo’s speech, receiving warm greetings from party members. Madrid's regional president Isabel Díaz Ayuso also spoke, criticizing Sánchez’s government as corrupt and authoritarian, accusing it of undermining the rule of law and free institutions.

Feijóo’s speech was met with chants demanding Sánchez’s resignation and promises to restore the nation’s honor through elections, marking a significant moment in Spain’s political landscape.
