Lebanese PM condemns Hezbollah rocket fire amid escalation fears
Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam condemned a recent rocket attack as irresponsible and suspicious. He said it endangers Lebanon's security and provides Israel with reasons to continue strikes. Salam stopped short of naming Hezbollah but called the action a threat to national safety.
Salam urged restraint and vowed that Lebanon will not enter new conflicts. He scheduled an emergency government meeting for Monday morning to address the crisis. The prime minister's remarks came after Hezbollah launched rockets at Israel, prompting Israeli airstrikes on Beirut and other areas.
The incident risks collapsing a ceasefire agreed in November 2024. The Norwegian Refugee Council noted a rise in Israeli attacks on Lebanon even before recent events. Lebanese officials reported more than 2,000 Israeli violations of the truce since it began.
