Kosovo agrees to deploy troops to Gaza in U.S.-led peace initiative
On Monday, Kosovo’s government confirmed its decision to send troops to Gaza as part of an international peacekeeping mission supported by the United States. This move comes following last year’s ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.
Several countries, including Indonesia, Morocco, Kazakhstan, and Albania, have also pledged forces to the International Stabilization Force, aiming to maintain security and assist a transitional administration in Gaza under the U.S.-backed "Board of Peace."
Speaking at a televised ministerial meeting, Prime Minister Albin Kurti emphasized Kosovo’s readiness to contribute. “We are prepared to participate and support the people of Gaza, as we ourselves have benefited from international forces since 1999,” he said. Details about the number of troops being deployed were not disclosed.
Despite the ceasefire, violence in Gaza continues. According to local health authorities, Israeli military operations have resulted in over 680 Palestinian deaths since November, with more than 72,000 casualties reported since the outbreak of the conflict in October 2023.
