Khamenei says Iran-US tensions are “insoluble” amid nuclear dispute
Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei declared on Sunday that the current standoff between Tehran and Washington is “insoluble,” insisting that the Islamic Republic will never bow to American pressure. His comments, carried by state media, come as Iran faces mounting tensions with Western powers over its nuclear ambitions.
Nuclear negotiations between Iran and the United States have been on hold since June, when Israeli and American strikes targeted Iranian nuclear facilities during a 12-day conflict. Despite that, Iran and European powers reached a preliminary understanding last Friday to resume broader talks aimed at curbing Tehran’s uranium enrichment program.
“They want Iran to submit to America. The Iranian nation will resist with all its strength against such misguided expectations,” Khamenei said, rejecting calls for direct negotiations with Washington. He added that those urging restraint in anti-American slogans “fail to see the reality,” stressing that “this issue is insoluble.”
France, Britain, and Germany warned that they could trigger a UN sanctions “snapback” mechanism if Tehran does not rejoin the negotiating table. Western governments accuse Iran of seeking to develop nuclear weapons, while Tehran maintains that its program is solely for civilian energy production.
