Jorf Lasfar Port Fire: Death Toll Rises as Search Operations Intensify
A fire, sparked by the explosion of a ship's engine at the port of Jorf Lasfar, has claimed multiple lives. The accident, which occurred on Thursday, May 30th, prompted authorities to launch a search operation to locate any potentially missing individuals.
Following the blaze that erupted on a Panamanian-flagged vessel docked at the port of Jorf Lasfar awaiting a fertilizer shipment, lives were lost. Authorities handling the incident have not yet officially disclosed the exact number of fatalities.
However, eyewitnesses report that several individuals were rescued, three of whom succumbed to their injuries due to their severity.
Hours after the tragedy, three injured individuals were transferred to Casablanca to receive urgent medical care, while two others, deemed to be in stable condition, were taken to a private clinic in El Jadida. Furthermore, the same sources indicate that three additional bodies were reportedly recovered.
Currently, search operations are ongoing in the hope of finding any remaining survivors still unaccounted for.
