Industry: Everything you need to know about the new “Made in Morocco” label
Rabat, November 5, 2025 – The Moroccan government, in partnership with the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM), has officially launched the new “Made in Morocco” label. Designed to enhance product traceability, highlight local value, and support industrial upgrading, the initiative aims to certify the Moroccan origin of products while ensuring compliance with technical standards.
The label, presented by Minister of Industry and Trade Ryad Mezzour, emphasizes local value addition. A clear criterion underpins the certification: a product must have at least 40% of its unit production cost generated within Morocco. The system also allows for expert evaluation of substantial industrial transformations, acknowledging the diversity of production models.
Managed by the Moroccan Institute for Standardization (IMANOR), the labeling process integrates technical analysis, covering both the nature and depth of local transformations. “Not every product can claim the Made in Morocco label based solely on 40% local content; technical standards are essential,” said Mezzour.
The certification procedure involves several stages: verification of documentation, on-site inspections, technical validation, label awarding, and post-certification monitoring. Products failing to maintain compliance may have their certification suspended or revoked. The goal is to make the label a lever for industrial structuring, competitiveness, and a clear signal for consumers, public buyers, and international partners.
Beyond technical requirements, the label carries cultural significance. It reflects a shift in mindset toward quality, trust, and national industrial sovereignty. According to the minister, “Made in Morocco should no longer be a marginal argument; it must represent confidence, excellence, and industrial sovereignty.”
The launch, aligned with the directives of HM King Mohammed VI, also seeks to guide public investment toward products with high local value and stimulate private sector investment by ensuring products are identifiable, competitive, and compliant.
