Gene Hackman, the legendary actor, and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, were discovered dead in their New Mexico home on Wednesday, alongside their dog. Authorities have called the circumstances of their deaths "suspicious enough" to warrant a thorough investigation.

While the exact cause of death remains unknown, preliminary autopsies revealed no external trauma or immediate signs of foul play. Additionally, there were no indications of a carbon monoxide or gas leak. The couple's bodies were found in separate rooms, with Arakawa's body next to scattered pills, and Hackman's near the kitchen with a walking cane and sunglasses nearby.

A 911 caller reported seeing the unconscious couple through a window but was unable to enter the home. The maintenance workers found the bodies around 2 p.m. local time, noting that they hadn't been in contact with the homeowners for two weeks. The couple had been dead for some time when discovered. Authorities have ruled out carbon monoxide poisoning and other common causes of death for now.

Gene Hackman, 95, was an Oscar-winning actor renowned for his roles in films such as The French Connection and Unforgiven. His wife, Betsy Arakawa, was a classical pianist. The cause of death will be confirmed after official autopsy and toxicology results, which are expected in 4-6 weeks.

Hackman's passing comes just before the Academy Awards, where the actor is expected to be honored for his immense contribution to cinema. Hackman won two Academy Awards in his career and was nominated five times.
