Ethiopia secures $13 billion in investment deals to boost key sectors

Ethiopia has announced the signing of investment agreements worth approximately $13 billion during a major conference aimed at attracting foreign capital into strategic sectors of its economy.

The event, held in Addis Ababa, brought together international investors and government officials seeking to strengthen economic growth and support job creation. Like many emerging economies in Africa, Ethiopia is focusing on increasing foreign direct investment, particularly in industries that can absorb its rapidly growing workforce.

According to the Ethiopia Investment Commission, the agreements cover a wide range of sectors, including manufacturing, agriculture, agro-processing, energy, and construction. These investments are expected to play a key role in modernizing infrastructure and enhancing productivity.

Among the notable projects is a $150 million initiative by Sun King to expand off-grid solar systems for households and businesses over the next five years, improving access to electricity in underserved areas.

In addition, Liaoning Fangda Group plans to invest over $500 million in steel production and pharmaceutical manufacturing, contributing to industrial diversification.

The largest share of the commitments comes from Ming Yang Smart Energy Group Limited, which has pledged more than $10 billion for projects focused on renewable energy, hydrogen, and green ammonia development.

These agreements highlight Ethiopia’s ambition to position itself as a key investment destination in Africa, while addressing critical needs such as energy access, industrial growth, and sustainable development.
