Deadly train bombing in Pakistan leaves more than 30 dead
A deadly bombing targeting a train in southwestern Pakistan has left more than 30 people dead, according to local officials, in one of the latest violent attacks linked to separatist militants in the province of Balochistan.
The attack occurred near the provincial capital, Quetta, where a suicide bomber reportedly drove an explosives-filled vehicle into a shuttle train carrying members of Pakistan’s security forces and their families. Authorities stated that the death toll increased significantly after several injured victims succumbed to their wounds.
Local officials indicated that the explosion caused severe destruction, damaging nearby buildings and vehicles. Emergency services and rescue teams were deployed quickly to the scene to assist survivors and transport the injured to nearby hospitals.
The separatist group known as the Baloch Liberation Army claimed responsibility for the attack. The organization has been involved in a long-running insurgency in the resource-rich province of Balochistan, where militants accuse the central government of failing to provide local communities with a fair share of economic benefits derived from regional natural resources.
Over the years, the region has witnessed repeated attacks targeting infrastructure, transportation networks, and security personnel. Analysts believe the continued instability reflects deeper political and economic tensions within the province.
Pakistan’s authorities strongly condemned the bombing and reaffirmed their commitment to combating militant violence and maintaining national security. The attack has also renewed concerns about the security situation in Balochistan, a strategically important region bordering both Iran and Afghanistan.
The bombing highlights the ongoing security challenges facing Pakistan as the country continues efforts to contain separatist violence and protect civilian infrastructure from militant attacks.
