Deadly mass shooting in Sweden: Suspect among 11 victims at education center

In a devastating attack at an adult education center west of Stockholm, at least 11 people were killed, including the shooter. Authorities have warned that the death toll may rise. The incident has shocked Sweden, a country where gun violence at schools is uncommon, with officials struggling to determine the exact number of casualties in the aftermath.

The attack occurred at Campus Risbergska, an educational institution offering primary and secondary courses for adults, Swedish-language programs for immigrants, vocational training, and services for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Located near Orebro, approximately 200 kilometers from Stockholm, the school became the site of the country's deadliest mass shooting.

Justice Minister Gunnar Strömmer expressed that this tragedy deeply impacted society. The shooting began in the afternoon, after most students had left for the day following a national exam. Students sheltered in nearby buildings, and parts of the campus were evacuated.

Authorities are still working to identify the victims, and the toll could increase. Local police confirmed that the shooter was among the deceased. While there were no prior warnings, police believe the assailant acted alone, and at this point, no connection to terrorism has been found. Investigations are ongoing, with police searching the suspect's home for further details.

Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson addressed the nation, calling the attack "brutal and deadly violence against completely innocent people." He acknowledged that this was the worst mass shooting in Swedish history, and while many questions remain, he urged the public to avoid speculation. Authorities are committed to uncovering the facts behind the tragedy, including the motive, in the coming days.

Although school shootings are rare in Sweden, there have been incidents involving other weapons, such as knives or axes, in recent years.
