Cold Wave: El Jadida launches shelter campaign for homeless
A large-scale humanitarian campaign was launched on Friday in El Jadida to provide shelter and care for homeless people during the current cold wave. The initiative aims to protect vulnerable populations from harsh winter temperatures and adverse weather conditions.
Organized by Morocco’s National Initiative for Human Development (INDH) in collaboration with the provincial delegation of the National Mutual Aid, the Health and Social Protection authorities, local officials, and the Afak Association for Women and Children in Azemmour, the campaign mobilized a temporary reception center equipped with essential logistics, including blankets, mattresses, hot meals, and basic medical care.
Teams conducted night patrols across several neighborhoods to identify individuals in need and escort them safely to the shelter, ensuring both dignity and physical safety. According to Houman Hatbi, provincial delegate of the National Mutual Aid, the patrols assisted five individuals with medical check-ups and social support services.
The outreach is part of the broader Winter 2025 Campaign, which combines immediate humanitarian aid with efforts to reintegrate beneficiaries into their families when possible. For those who declined shelter, blankets and meals were provided on-site.
This campaign underscores the pivotal role of INDH in social protection and highlights the values of solidarity and community cohesion that characterize Morocco’s societal model, particularly during extreme weather conditions.
