CNSS announces $3.6 million advances for surgeries and dialysis treatments
The National Social Security Fund (CNSS) of Lebanon announced on Monday new advances totaling 322 billion Lebanese pounds (approximately $3.6 million at the rate of 89,500 LL per USD) to support surgeries and dialysis treatments.
According to a CNSS statement, "New financial advances amounting to 322 billion Lebanese pounds have been allocated to hospitals and doctors." Specifically, 150 billion LL (around $1.6 million) will fund fixed-rate surgical procedures for insured patients, while 172 billion LL (approximately $1.9 million) will cover dialysis treatments.
The CNSS also noted that its healthcare expenditures have "increased by 65% since the beginning of the year compared to 2024, covering hospitalization, medical care, and medications." During the first half of 2025, the CNSS disbursed about 3,298 billion LL ($37 million) to hospitals, doctors, and insured patients, whereas the total healthcare spending for the whole of 2024 did not exceed 2,000 billion LL ($22.3 million).
The CNSS emphasized that it has "entered a serious recovery phase and that healthcare benefits are gradually returning to pre-crisis levels." Earlier in July, the fund had already released 65 billion LL ($726,000) for surgical operations. By mid-April, coverage for medication prices and hospital fees had returned to pre-crisis levels, reaching 80% and 90%, respectively. Since the onset of the economic crisis, CNSS coverage had dropped sharply alongside the Lebanese pound’s value against the dollar, but recovery began in 2022.
