China says Washington requested 'Positive and Constructive' call between Trump and Xi
China’s Foreign Ministry said Tuesday that the United States initiated the latest phone call between President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping, describing the exchange as cordial and forward-looking.
According to ministry spokesperson Mao Ning, the conversation was marked by a “positive, friendly and constructive” tone. The call took place on Monday as both leaders continue navigating a complex bilateral relationship shaped by trade tensions, military rivalry and global geopolitical shifts.
Following the discussion, President Trump praised U.S.–China relations as “extremely strong,” signaling an effort to stabilize diplomatic channels. President Xi, for his part, reiterated Beijing’s longstanding position on Taiwan, telling Trump that what China views as the island’s “return” remains central to its vision for the future world order.
The call comes amid heightened regional tensions, with both countries asserting competing strategic ambitions in Asia and beyond.
