China announces official visit of Pakistan’s prime minister

China has officially announced that Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will visit the country from May 23 to May 26 as part of ongoing diplomatic discussions between the two longtime allies.

According to Chinese officials, the visit will focus on strengthening bilateral cooperation in areas including trade, regional security, economic development, and international diplomacy. The trip also highlights the strategic partnership between Beijing and Pakistan, which has expanded significantly in recent years through infrastructure and investment projects.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun stated that Beijing supports Pakistan’s efforts to promote dialogue and stability in the region. His comments came after questions regarding Pakistan’s reported mediation role in discussions involving Iran and the United States.

Pakistan has increasingly positioned itself as a diplomatic intermediary in regional affairs, seeking to encourage peaceful negotiations and reduce tensions between competing powers in the Middle East. Analysts believe the topic of regional stability and conflict prevention could be part of the discussions during Sharif’s visit to Beijing.

China and Pakistan maintain close political and economic relations through major initiatives such as the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, one of the flagship projects linked to China’s Belt and Road Initiative. The partnership has strengthened cooperation in transportation, energy, infrastructure, and defense.

Observers say the upcoming visit demonstrates the growing importance of diplomatic coordination between Asian powers amid evolving geopolitical challenges and international security concerns.
