Atlas Lions Roar in Grand Style: A Masterclass in Dominance

In a spectacle that left football enthusiasts in awe, the Atlas Lions of Morocco delivered a resounding performance, dismantling the Red Devils of Congo with a commanding 6-0 victory. This triumph, played out on the hallowed grounds of the Grand Stade d'Agadir, not only solidified their position in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers but also served as a morale-boosting exhibition of their prowess.

From the outset, the Atlas Lions showcased unwavering determination, dispelling any lingering doubts following their narrow 2-1 victory over Zambia just days prior. Head coach Walid Regragui's strategic lineup changes proved fruitful, as the team displayed impressive synergy that laid the foundation for their dominant display.

The onslaught commenced in the 9th minute when the dynamic Azzedine Ounahi, expertly set up by the talented youngster Eliesse Ben Seghir, etched the Atlas Lions' name on the scoreboard. Barely seven minutes later, another promising youngster, Chadi Riad, capitalized on a defensive lapse in the Congolese penalty area, doubling the advantage and marking his maiden international goal.

Ayoub El Kaabi, entrusted with striking responsibilities in place of Youssef En-Nesyri, wasted no time in making his presence felt. In the 20th minute, he latched onto a tantalizing pass from the ever-threatening Achraf Hakimi, unleashing an unstoppable strike to extend the lead to 3-0.

Undeterred, El Kaabi returned to torment the Congolese defense once again in the 40th minute, further compounding their misery. The relentless attacks continued, with Hakimi, Ziyech, and Diaz orchestrating a symphony of fluid movements, but the halftime whistle brought a temporary reprieve for the beleaguered visitors, who trailed 4-0.

The second half witnessed a continuation of the Atlas Lions' dominance, as they maintained an unwavering grip on the proceedings. In the 53rd minute, a cleverly executed free kick saw Ounahi find El Kaabi, who unleashed a ferocious header to bulge the Congolese net for the fifth time.

Subsequent substitutions saw Akhomach and Soufiane Rahimi introduced, and the latter wasted no time in leaving his mark, scoring a delightful goal on his very first touch just nine minutes after entering the fray.

As the game progressed, the Atlas Lions remained composed at the back, with the formidable duo of Aguerd and Riad complemented by the tireless efforts of Amrabat in providing defensive cover. Hakimi, having assumed the captaincy following Ziyech's departure, played a pivotal role in orchestrating dangerous forays into the Congolese half, with his teammates narrowly missing out on further extending their tally on several occasions.

In the end, the resounding 6-0 scoreline stood as a testament to the Atlas Lions' dominance, a performance that not only bolstered their confidence but also delighted their fervent supporters. With this emphatic victory, the Atlas Lions solidified their position atop Group E with 9 points, followed by Tanzania (6 points), Zambia and Niger (3 points each), while Congo languished at the bottom with no points.

Armed with this significant advantage in their quest for qualification to the 2026 World Cup finals, Walid Regragui's men can now enjoy a well-deserved respite, their spirits buoyed by this commanding display before resuming their campaign in the 5th and 6th rounds scheduled for March of the following year.
