300 evacuated in Sarcelles after suspicious vehicle triggers security operation

Around 300 people were evacuated from a neighborhood in Sarcelles, north of Paris, after French authorities launched a security operation following reports of a suspicious vehicle that was later found to contain weapons, police sources said.

The vehicle had been flagged by France’s domestic intelligence agency, the DGSI (General Directorate for Internal Security), which suspected it could potentially pose a threat to the local Jewish community, a significant presence in the city.

Security perimeter established

The operation took place on Saturday evening in a busy area of Sarcelles, located in the Val-d’Oise department.

Authorities established a security perimeter around the parked vehicle, while nearby businesses, including a cinema and restaurants, were evacuated as a precautionary measure.

Specialized bomb disposal teams were deployed to examine the vehicle and determine whether it contained any explosive materials.

Weapons discovered inside vehicle

After completing their inspection, bomb disposal experts confirmed that no explosives were found.

However, authorities discovered weapons inside the vehicle, including an assault rifle and a handgun, according to police sources.

Investigators also determined that the vehicle had been reported stolen, adding another element to the ongoing inquiry.

The alert was initially raised by the DGSI as part of its monitoring activities related to potential threats against the Jewish community in Sarcelles.

Police officials said the investigation remains active, with authorities working to establish the origin of the weapons, the circumstances surrounding the stolen vehicle and whether there was any planned criminal intent.
