Akhannouch represents King Mohammed VI at Pope Leo XIV’s inauguration ceremony
Aziz Akhannouch, Head of Government, acted as the representative of King Mohammed VI, Commander of the Faithful, during the official inauguration ceremony of Pope Leo XIV. The event took place Sunday morning in St. Peter’s Square, Vatican City, commemorating the new pope’s ascension to the papal throne.
The ceremony attracted numerous heads of state and government, celebrating Pope Leo XIV’s election as leader of the Catholic Church on May 8. Following the ceremony, Akhannouch exchanged greetings with the Pope, who then welcomed the delegations inside St. Peter’s Basilica.
King Mohammed VI sent a message of congratulations to Pope Leo XIV, highlighting the historic diplomatic and spiritual relationship between Morocco and the Holy See. The King underscored the deep ties rooted in mutual respect, friendly understanding, and joint dedication to peace and coexistence.
