Fuel prices continue to rise in Lebanon amid regional tensions

Fuel prices have risen again across Lebanon, reflecting mounting pressure from global oil market volatility and ongoing regional tensions.

The latest price adjustments, released by the Ministry of Energy, show a noticeable increase across all major fuel categories. Gasoline, diesel, and household gas have all become more expensive, adding to the financial strain on consumers already facing economic challenges.

The increase comes as international oil prices fluctuate, partly due to instability affecting key supply routes such as the Strait of Hormuz. Disruptions in this critical passage have contributed to concerns about supply shortages and rising global energy costs.

In addition to higher prices, the situation has been compounded by security concerns. Georges Brax, head of the fuel station owners’ union, reported a rise in armed robberies targeting service stations. According to him, several incidents have involved violence against employees and the theft of daily revenues.

One particularly serious attack reportedly took place near the airport area, where a station owner was severely injured during an assault. Authorities have yet to apprehend those responsible, raising concerns about safety and enforcement.

Observers note that the combination of rising fuel costs and security challenges is placing additional pressure on Lebanon’s already fragile economy. The price hikes are also fueling fears of broader inflation, as transportation and energy costs impact the prices of goods and services.
