Ecuador Suspends Recognition of the Pseudo "Rasd" and Supports Morocco’s Autonomy Initiative
In a virtual meeting held today, Nasser Bourita, Morocco's Minister of Foreign Affairs, engaged in discussions with his Ecuadorian counterpart Gabriela Sommerfeld. During this video conference, Minister Sommerfeld reaffirmed Ecuador's decision to suspend its recognition of the pseudo "Rasd", a self-proclaimed entity, and expressed strong support for Morocco's Autonomy Initiative for the Sahara region.
This position taken by Ecuador marks a significant strengthening of international support for Morocco's approach, which advocates for a realistic and pragmatic political solution based on autonomy under the sovereignty of the Kingdom. Minister Sommerfeld emphasized the importance of this initiative as a means to ensure stability and peace in the region while respecting Morocco's territorial integrity.
Minister Nasser Bourita welcomed this decision, recognizing it as a reflection of a new dynamic of international solidarity toward Morocco's stance on the Sahara issue. He also reiterated Morocco's continuous efforts to reach a sustainable resolution to this conflict, highlighting the importance of dialogue and international cooperation in achieving lasting peace.
This exchange underscores the strong diplomatic relations between Morocco and Ecuador, two nations committed to promoting peaceful and consensual solutions to international challenges.
