France grants €781 million for 18 Alstom TGVs to Morocco
The French government has extended a Treasury loan of €781 million to Morocco for the procurement of 18 high-speed trains (TGV) from Alstom. This investment is aimed at extending the high-speed rail line (LGV) to Marrakech.
This funding is part of the ongoing Franco-Moroccan railway cooperation and follows an agreement signed on October 28, 2024, during President Emmanuel Macron's visit to Morocco.
The new Avelia Horizon TGVs, which can accommodate up to 640 passengers and reach speeds of 320 km/h, will be manufactured in France, with Alstom's factory in Fès contributing to the production of certain components.
Christophe Lecourtier, the French ambassador to Morocco, expressed enthusiasm for this partnership, highlighting the success of the LGV Tanger-Kénitra line, which transported nearly 5 million passengers in 2024.
This initiative also aligns with Morocco's efforts to modernize its railway network in preparation for the 2030 World Cup.
