Morocco to Host FIFA Africa Bureau Headquarters in Groundbreaking Agreement

Morocco has officially been chosen as the host for the FIFA Africa Bureau headquarters, marking a pivotal moment for the advancement of football across the African continent.

The agreement, signed in Marrakech following the 2024 CAF Awards, underscores Morocco's growing influence in sports governance and infrastructure. The event saw the participation of Morocco’s Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch, FIFA President Gianni Infantino, and Fouzi Lekjaa, President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF).

A Strategic Move for African Football

The FIFA Africa Bureau aims to centralize and streamline FIFA’s initiatives across Africa, providing much-needed administrative and logistical support for football development. With Morocco’s robust infrastructure and proven commitment to advancing the sport, the bureau is set to play a transformative role.

Prime Minister Akhannouch highlighted the agreement as a reflection of Morocco’s credibility within international sports institutions. “This step follows Morocco’s historic achievement of securing joint hosting rights for the 2030 World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal. It signals our readiness to support global football initiatives,” Akhannouch said.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino lauded the decision, describing the bureau as more than just an administrative hub. “This represents a firm commitment to growing football in Africa. Morocco’s dedication to the sport sets a benchmark for others,” Infantino stated.

Recognition of Morocco’s Contributions

CAF President Patrice Motsepe also commended Morocco for its extensive contributions to football on the continent. “Morocco’s leadership and investments continue to inspire progress throughout Africa. The FIFA Africa Bureau will further strengthen the continent’s football ecosystem,” Motsepe said during the signing ceremony.

The agreement comes at a time when Morocco is solidifying its place as a powerhouse in African football. The country’s successful hosting of major football events, coupled with its leadership in sports governance, has earned international recognition.

A Celebration of African Football

The signing coincided with the 2024 CAF Awards, where Moroccan figures played a significant role. Bouchra Karboubi was named Best Female Referee of the Year, Doha El Madani received the award for Best Young Female Player, and Lamia Boumehdi was recognized as Best Female Coach. These accolades underscore Morocco’s growing presence in the football world and its commitment to nurturing talent.

CAF President Motsepe used the platform to highlight Africa’s progress in football. “Today, we celebrate the best of African football—its achievements, players, and future aspirations. The presence of this bureau is another step toward global recognition of African football,” he added.

Driving Sustainable Football Development

Equipped with specialized infrastructure and expertise, the FIFA Africa Bureau will focus on sustainable football development, fostering emerging talent and supporting federations across the continent. Morocco’s collaboration with FIFA promises to elevate African football to new heights.

This agreement places Morocco at the forefront of football governance in Africa, solidifying its role as a hub for progress, innovation, and excellence in the sport.
