OAS General Assembly in Antigua and Barbuda: Morocco Reaffirms Vision of a United Atlantic
At the 55th General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS), held in Antigua and Barbuda under the theme “Building Resilient and Inclusive Economies,” Morocco reaffirmed its deep commitment to solidarity, South-South cooperation, and shared development across the Atlantic.
Representing Morocco as its Permanent Observer to the OAS, Ambassador Youssef Amrani praised the organization's ongoing dedication to peace, democracy, and prosperity in the Americas. He highlighted the shared challenges and solutions linking Africa and Latin America, emphasizing that South-South cooperation holds the potential to center development strategies around human well-being.
Reflecting the vision of King Mohammed VI, Amrani underscored Morocco’s sincere and active engagement in fostering natural alliances among Global South countries, building bridges between nations, promoting cultural connections, and shaping shared futures for diverse populations.
The ambassador called for a reimagining of the Atlantic space—not merely as a geographical link, but as a strategic political, economic, and human platform uniting the North and South through balanced, inclusive ambitions.
He pointed to the King’s Atlantic Initiative as a source of renewed hope and opportunity for Atlantic coastal nations and inland African regions. As the South Atlantic emerges as a new strategic axis, Amrani advocated for stronger regional collaboration, supported by mechanisms for dialogue and innovation, to convert geo-economic potential into real engines of growth.
He emphasized Morocco’s commitment to a diplomacy of co-construction, based on mutual respect and collective interest. The Kingdom, he noted, believes that equitable partnerships are essential to lasting cooperation.
Amrani concluded by reaffirming Morocco’s enduring commitment to strengthening ties with the OAS and its member states. He expressed confidence that shared ambitions focused on the Atlantic can deliver tangible progress and create a framework for peace, prosperity, and hope.
Morocco has held the status of Permanent Observer to the OAS since 1981. Founded in 1948, the OAS includes all 35 independent states of the Americas and serves as the region’s main forum for political, legal, and social dialogue.
