Morocco opens new consulate to serve its citizens in southern US

Morocco has officially opened a new consulate general in Miami, Florida, aiming to provide enhanced services to Moroccan nationals living in nearly twenty southern US states. The inauguration was attended by American officials, local elected leaders, and members of the Moroccan diaspora.

This initiative aligns with King Mohammed VI’s vision to improve outreach and responsiveness to Moroccans living abroad. It reflects Morocco’s commitment to maintaining strong ties with its diaspora through efficient and accessible services.

Speaking at the event, Morocco’s ambassador to the United States, Youssef Amrani, emphasized that this new consulate embodies the country’s dedication to supporting its citizens overseas with dignity and efficiency. He described the Miami consulate as a key element in Morocco's broader effort to reform public policies related to its global community. The consulate is intended not just as an administrative center, but as a symbol of enduring connection between Morocco and its citizens abroad.

Chafika El Habti, the Consul General in Miami, noted that the consulate has been designed with a forward-looking approach, focusing on digital and electronic services. This modernization is particularly beneficial given the wide geographic coverage of the consulate’s jurisdiction, which stretches from Florida to California.

She added that opening the consulate in Miami is a strategic move, considering the city’s economic vibrancy and cultural openness. Miami serves as a major gateway to South and Latin America, facilitating cross-continental cooperation.

Members of the Moroccan community in Miami welcomed the opening, expressing appreciation for the improved access to services and the Kingdom’s continuous care for its diaspora. They especially highlighted the value of digital services, which make consular support more accessible.

The opening ceremony was attended by several American officials, including the mayors of Miami, Hollywood, and Boynton Beach.
