Meta unveils its most powerful AI model yet

Meta has introduced Muse Spark 1.3, the company’s most advanced artificial intelligence model to date, as it seeks to strengthen its position in an increasingly competitive AI market.

The new model was initially made available to developers as a paid service, but Meta plans to bring its capabilities to a wider audience through its applications, including Instagram, Facebook and Meta AI, over the coming weeks.

Alexander Wang, Meta’s head of artificial intelligence, described the release as the company’s biggest improvement in model performance so far. According to the company, Muse Spark 1.3 delivers significant gains in software development and in tasks that AI can carry out on behalf of users.

Wang has also claimed that the model can compete with Anthropic’s Claude Fable 5.1 and outperform OpenAI’s GPT-5.6 Sol in programming tasks. Such comparisons, however, should be viewed with caution, as AI benchmark results can vary depending on the tests used. A model that performs particularly well in one area may not necessarily deliver the same results across other tasks.

One of the main improvements in Muse Spark 1.3 is greater efficiency. Meta says the model requires around 25% fewer tokens than its predecessor to complete a task, potentially reducing computational requirements while allowing developers to handle larger workloads.

The model is also designed to manage several workflows simultaneously rather than requiring separate sessions for each task. It has reportedly become more effective at maintaining context when processing lengthy or complex instructions, an increasingly important capability as AI systems take on more sophisticated assignments.

Another notable feature is its ability to recognize situations in which it may lack sufficient information or certainty. Meta says the model can pause and request clarification before carrying out an irreversible action, adding an additional layer of control to AI-assisted workflows.

Meta has not yet confirmed whether it will make the model’s weights publicly available. Such access would allow external developers to build and customize systems based on the underlying model. The company nevertheless continues to plan the release of the weights for the earlier Muse Spark 1.2 version.

Despite the new capabilities, developers will not face higher prices than those associated with Muse Spark 1.2. Meta says demand for the model through its developer platform has been strong, with some users reportedly processing trillions of tokens each week.

The launch comes as Meta continues to invest heavily in artificial intelligence infrastructure and development. With Muse Spark 1.3, the company is signaling its intention to narrow the gap with leading AI competitors through successive improvements in performance, efficiency and autonomous task execution.
