Young man killed in Valence shooting linked to suspected drug trafficking dispute

A young man in his twenties was shot dead on Friday evening in Valence, in southeastern France, in what authorities believe was a violent settling of scores connected to drug trafficking activity.

According to the local prosecutor, the victim was seriously wounded by gunfire from what is believed to have been a high-powered weapon and later died from his injuries in hospital. The shooting took place shortly before 9 p.m. in the Plan district, an area that has experienced repeated tensions linked to narcotics networks.
