WeCasablanca Festival 2024: A Melodious Mosaic of Moroccan Culture

The WeCasablanca Festival, a cultural beacon of Morocco’s economic capital, returns this year with an eclectic and innovative lineup that promises to enchant and inspire.

From July 18 to 20, Casablanca will resonate with the vibrant beats of rock, urban, fusion, Amazigh, Gnaoua, and Aïta music, reflecting the city's rich and diverse identity. Set against the picturesque backdrops of the Toro space and the United Nations Square, this festival promises an unforgettable musical journey.

A Celebration of Diversity

The WeCasablanca Festival is a celebration of the heart and soul of the city, highlighting its open spirit and cultural vibrancy. Casablanca has long been a fertile ground for avant-garde artistic movements, and this year’s festival promises unforgettable moments of sharing and discovery.

Showcasing Eclectic Talents

Rock music enthusiasts can look forward to performances by Meteor Airlines, an award-winning group that blends alternative rock with traditional sounds. They will take the stage at the Toro space on July 18. The Moroccan rock band, Hoba Hoba Spirit, known for their unique fusion of Hayha music, reggae, and traditional Moroccan influences, will also perform during the event.

Fusion music enthusiasts are in for a treat on July 19, as the Toro space will showcase the creativity of versatile artists Jubantouja and Mehdi Qamoum. These artists blend genres such as jazz, blues, indie rock, and traditional influences, pushing musical and cultural boundaries.

Urban music lovers will be thrilled by performances from Tagne, a rising star in the Moroccan rap scene, and Farid Ghannam, whose unique voice blends Gnaoua, pop, and R&B genres. Meanwhile, Badr Ouabi and Aïcha Tachenouit will immerse audiences in the rich Amazigh culture, celebrating the cultural identity and heritage of Morocco.

Honoring Timeless Traditions

The festival also honors the sacred chants of Gnaoua music, a tradition inscribed on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list. Artists such as Asmaa Hamzaoui and Hamid El Kasri will bring the deep roots of this Moroccan tradition to the modern stage, offering an immersion into the vibrant soul of Gnaoua music.

Aïta, a tradition that has flourished in Casablanca for a century, will be celebrated through performances by artists like Siham El Mesfiouia and Said Senhaji. This genre, with its ancestral songs and captivating rhythms, embodies the living essence of Moroccan popular culture, transmitting stories, emotions, and values across generations.

Cheers to Electronic Beats

Electronic music enthusiasts will be delighted by the dynamic and energetic sets of DJ Omary, Sound Of Mint, DJ MKA, and D33P SOUL, who will perform on stages at the Toro space and United Nations Square. VJ Kalamour will provide immersive visual experiences, drawing inspiration from contemporary digital arts and highlighting Moroccan cultural identity.

A Free Musical Extravaganza

Best of all, the WeCasablanca Festival will offer a series of free concerts across two stages in the heart of the city: at the Toro space and the United Nations Square. This year’s festival promises an immersive and enriching musical experience, celebrating artistic diversity and innovation.
