Volcano Eruption in Indonesia: Emergency Services Deployed to Evacuate Thousands
Emergency services are on high alert in Indonesia after the Ruang volcano in the northern part of the archipelago erupted, putting thousands of people at risk. This eruption, accompanied by a tsunami risk alert in case of rock collapse into the sea, has prompted authorities to take urgent measures to ensure the safety of residents.
Since Tuesday, the Ruang volcano has experienced five successive eruptions, spewing ash clouds over a kilometer high into the sky. The situation worsened on Wednesday night when the volcano's crater ignited, spewing lava and forcing authorities to raise the alert level to the highest on a scale of four.
The effects of this eruption are already visible, with houses on the neighboring island of Tagulandang damaged by falling volcanic rocks. Residents are preparing for an imminent evacuation, while roads are blocked by volcanic materials, making travel difficult.
Emergency services are on high alert to evacuate endangered populations, with the evacuation of 11,000 people announced in the area near the volcano. This area includes the island of Tagulandang, home to around 20,000 people, highlighting the severity of the threat facing the region.
Taka, a local fisherman, described the intensity of the eruption: "There was a mix of fire and rocks. The lava flowed in different directions." These testimonies underscore the seriousness of the situation and the need for swift action to protect the lives and property of residents.
Indonesian authorities remain on high alert, closely monitoring the evolution of the volcanic situation and implementing emergency measures to meet the needs of affected populations.
