France 2027 Election: Marine Le Pen Attacks Jean-Luc Mélenchon’s LFI Programme
Marine Le Pen, a leading figure in France’s National Rally (RN), has sharply criticised the newly updated political programme of France Unbowed (La France insoumise – LFI), describing it as a threat to the country’s institutional, economic and security foundations.
In a statement published on social media on Saturday, November 7, Le Pen argued that the programme presented by the movement led by Jean-Luc Mélenchon offered no credible strategy for national recovery. Instead, she accused the left-wing party of pursuing a political project that could weaken France and deepen existing divisions.
Her criticism comes as political parties increasingly position themselves ahead of the 2027 presidential election, with competing visions for the country's future taking shape.
Immigration and Security at the Centre of the Dispute
Le Pen particularly challenged several proposals included in LFI’s revised platform, highlighting its position on nationality and immigration, as well as its plans for policing.
Among the measures she criticised are the restoration of comprehensive birthright citizenship, including in Mayotte, changes affecting the Anti-Crime Brigade (BAC), and the proposed disarmament of municipal police forces.
The National Rally leader also expressed opposition to LFI’s economic and environmental priorities, particularly its support for a planned reduction in economic activity and the gradual closure of France’s nuclear power stations.
For Le Pen, these proposals reflect a broader political direction that could undermine national security, industrial competitiveness and France’s capacity to maintain its international influence.
LFI Unveils an Expanded Programme for 2027
The controversy follows the publication on Friday of an updated version of L’Avenir en commun, the political programme associated with Jean-Luc Mélenchon.
The document contains 1,069 proposals, including 238 new measures, and places ecological planning at the heart of the movement’s proposed transformation of France.
Its priorities include reorganising regional administration around environmental considerations, strengthening public intervention in strategic industries and accelerating the transition towards a more environmentally sustainable economic model.
The programme also retains several longstanding LFI commitments, including raising the net minimum monthly wage to €1,700, expanding access to public healthcare and reversing pension reforms, with the eventual objective of restoring retirement at 60 after 40 years of contributions.
The movement is also advocating a more substantial role for the state in directing economic and industrial policy.
A Growing Political Battle Ahead of 2027
The exchange between Le Pen and LFI illustrates the increasingly confrontational atmosphere surrounding the preparations for the next presidential election.
Jean-Luc Mélenchon is expected to present the updated programme at a major political gathering in Le Bourget, in the Seine-Saint-Denis department, on Saturday.
With the campaign gradually taking shape, disagreements over immigration, public security, economic policy, energy and France’s international position are emerging as central themes.
The competing positions of the National Rally and France Unbowed reflect two sharply different approaches to the country's future, setting the stage for an intense political contest in the months ahead.
