Turkey: Trade Between Morocco and OIC Member States Exceeds $21 Billion
Morocco has significantly strengthened its commercial relations with members of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), with bilateral trade exceeding $21 billion in 2025, marking a substantial increase over the past five years.
The figure was announced on Monday in Istanbul by Youssef Zahoui, Director of International Trade Relations at Morocco’s Ministry of Industry and Trade, during the 42nd ministerial session of the Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation of the OIC (COMCEC).
According to the figures presented, trade between Morocco and OIC member countries rose from approximately $9.5 billion in 2020 to more than $21 billion in 2025. This growth reflects the expanding economic links between the Kingdom and a network of 57 member states.
Morocco Seeks Deeper Economic Partnerships
Beyond the increase in trade volumes, Morocco is looking to establish more diversified and sustainable economic partnerships within the OIC framework.
During the Istanbul meeting, Zahoui highlighted the importance of improving access to trade financing and developing export guarantee and reinsurance mechanisms. These instruments are considered essential to reducing commercial risks and helping Moroccan businesses expand into international markets.
The Kingdom is also advocating for an overhaul of the preferential trade system among OIC members, with the objective of making commercial exchanges more efficient and competitive.
Digital transformation and artificial intelligence were also identified as promising areas for cooperation. In this regard, Morocco expressed its readiness to share its expertise with interested member states, particularly through the experience of Tamwilcom, the institution supporting business financing and access to credit.
Supporting Exporters and Expanding International Markets
Increasing the number of Moroccan exporting companies is another major priority. The government aims to double their number by providing greater support to small and medium-sized enterprises, cooperatives and businesses entering international markets for the first time.
This ambition forms part of a broader economic strategy focused on improving the business environment, encouraging investment and strengthening the competitiveness of Moroccan companies.
Morocco is also seeking to consolidate its position as an industrial and logistics hub connecting Africa with Europe, the Middle East and Asia. Developing stronger commercial networks with OIC countries could provide additional opportunities for Moroccan producers while opening new markets for domestic industries.
COMCEC Highlights Key Areas of Cooperation
Held over two days in Istanbul, the 42nd COMCEC ministerial session brings together representatives of OIC member states to examine economic prospects and identify opportunities for closer cooperation.
The agenda covers several strategic sectors, including sustainable tourism, food security, agricultural productivity and digital transformation.
Established in 1981, COMCEC serves as one of the principal institutional frameworks for economic and commercial cooperation among the 57 countries belonging to the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation.
For Morocco, the latest trade figures provide a foundation for further expansion, while the priorities outlined in Istanbul point towards a strategy that combines export growth, financial cooperation and technological development.
