ATP Rankings: Zverev Overtakes Jannik Sinner to Become World No. 1
German tennis star Alexander Zverev has reached a historic milestone, becoming the world's top-ranked men's player for the first time in his professional career at the age of 29.
The latest ATP rankings, published on Monday, November 2, confirm Zverev's rise to the summit, ending Jannik Sinner's spell at the top of the standings. The German takes first place with 9,550 points, narrowly ahead of the Italian, who drops to second with 9,450 points.
The achievement marks a significant turning point in Zverev's career, following several seasons in which he consistently challenged the leading players on the ATP Tour without managing to secure the number-one position.
A Landmark Achievement After the Vienna Open
Zverev's breakthrough comes after his participation in the Vienna Open, where he advanced deep into the tournament before suffering defeat against Australian player Alex de Minaur.
Despite missing out on a place in the final, his overall results were sufficient to secure the leading position in the world rankings. The German also benefited from Sinner's absence from competition, with the Italian having withdrawn for the remainder of the season.
Zverev's achievement represents another important chapter in German tennis history. He joins Boris Becker as the second German player to reach the top of the men's singles rankings.
The New ATP Top 10
The November 2 rankings also reflect several changes among the world's leading players.
Carlos Alcaraz retains third place with 6,100 points, while American Ben Shelton moves into fourth position with 4,530 points. Daniil Medvedev completes the top five with 3,860 points.
Italy's Flavio Cobolli occupies sixth place, followed by France's Arthur Fils in seventh. Frances Tiafoe is eighth, Australia's Alex de Minaur takes ninth, and Spain's Rafael Jódar rounds out the top ten.
Novak Djokovic remains just outside the leading group in 11th position, with 3,140 points.
The Race to the ATP Finals Intensifies
Attention is now shifting towards the season-ending ATP Finals, scheduled to take place in Turin, Italy, from November 15 to 22.
Zverev, Alcaraz, Shelton and Medvedev have already secured qualification for the prestigious tournament. Four remaining places are still available, with the upcoming Paris Masters 1000 expected to play a decisive role in determining the final lineup.
Novak Djokovic, Alex de Minaur, Rafael Jódar, Frances Tiafoe, Arthur Fils and Flavio Cobolli are among the players competing for the remaining qualification spots.
With the season approaching its conclusion, Zverev's arrival at the top adds another dimension to the competition, setting the stage for an important final stretch on the ATP Tour.
