Amine Harit Shines: Marseille Secure Fourth Consecutive Ligue 1 Victory
Olympique de Marseille continued their impressive run in Ligue 1 on Sunday, November 1, defeating Toulouse FC 2-0 at the Stade Vélodrome to claim their fourth consecutive league victory. Moroccan international Amine Harit played a decisive role, opening the scoring early and providing another encouraging display as Marseille strengthened their position in the standings.
Harit Makes an Immediate Impact
Marseille needed just two minutes to take the lead, with Harit producing a moment of individual quality to beat Toulouse goalkeeper Guillaume Restes. The Moroccan midfielder finished a well-constructed attacking move initiated by Amine Gouiri, using a delicate outside-of-the-foot strike to put the home side ahead.
The early breakthrough gave Marseille confidence and allowed them to impose their pressing game on their opponents. Their approach paid off in the 25th minute when Gouiri doubled the advantage, capitalising on the pressure applied by the home side.
Marseille could have extended their lead shortly afterwards, but Himad Abdelli failed to convert a promising opportunity after winning possession in the Toulouse defensive third.
Marseille Resist Toulouse's Second-Half Pressure
Toulouse returned from the interval with greater attacking ambition, attempting to reduce the deficit through a series of forward moves. However, Marseille's defensive organisation and the interventions of goalkeeper Jeffrey De Lange prevented the visitors from finding a way back into the contest.
Toulouse also had two goals ruled out for offside, further frustrating their efforts to change the outcome.
Despite enjoying considerable possession and increasing the pressure during the closing stages, the visitors could not overcome Marseille's resistance. The home side maintained their two-goal advantage until the final whistle.
The result also extended Toulouse's difficult record at the Vélodrome, where they have not secured a victory since 2012.
Marseille Climb to Sixth Place
The three points represent an important step forward for Marseille, who entered the ninth round of the championship in ninth position. Their fourth successive league win has lifted them to sixth place, improving their prospects of challenging for a higher finish and potentially securing qualification for European competition.
Toulouse, meanwhile, remain in 11th place with 10 points, leaving them with work to do as the season progresses.
Ligue 1 Race Intensifies
Elsewhere in Sunday's fixtures, Paris FC claimed an important 3-1 victory over AS Monaco, strengthening their position among the teams competing near the top of the table.
Paris FC moved provisionally into fourth place, level on points with Lyon, who retained third position thanks to a superior goal difference. Monaco slipped to sixth with 15 points.
The ninth round had already produced several high-scoring encounters. Paris Saint-Germain recorded a convincing 5-1 away win against Le Havre on Friday, while Nice defeated Rennes 5-2.
With Marseille building momentum and several clubs competing for European places, the Ligue 1 standings remain highly competitive.
For Harit, his early goal against Toulouse represents another positive contribution to Marseille's campaign and an encouraging moment for Moroccan supporters following his return to prominence.
