Three-year-old Indian becomes youngest ranked chess player
At just three years, seven months, and twenty days old, Indian chess prodigy Sarwagya Singh Kushwaha has become the youngest player ever to receive an official ranking from the International Chess Federation (FIDE).
The young talent, attending kindergarten in Madhya Pradesh, surpassed the previous record set in November 2024 by fellow Indian Anish Sarkar, who was three years, eight months, and nineteen days old at the time.
Kushwaha achieved a rapid chess rating of 1,572, according to FIDE’s official website. To earn a ranking, a player must defeat at least one opponent already listed in FIDE’s ranking system. While the rating reflects a player’s performance, it does not represent a specific world rank.
The current world number one, Norwegian grandmaster Magnus Carlsen, leads the rapid chess rankings with a rating of 2,824, highlighting the extraordinary journey that lies ahead for young Kushwaha.
