Teen injured in machete attack on Paris metro in suspected gang rivalry
A violent attack occurred in Paris on Monday afternoon, when a 17-year-old boy was seriously injured in a machete assault inside a metro train. The incident took place on line 5 near the Oberkampf station in the 11th arrondissement, according to police sources and the Paris prosecutor’s office.
Reports indicate that the victim was confronted by a group of around ten individuals who attacked him inside the train carriage. He suffered injuries to the face, including the right cheek and skull, before managing to exit the train at République station, where emergency services were called.
Firefighters treated the teenager on site before transporting him to Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital. Authorities confirmed that his life is not in danger, although he sustained serious facial injuries.
The train involved in the incident was kept at the platform to preserve evidence, while metro traffic between Gare du Nord and Bastille was temporarily suspended as investigations began. Police are currently conducting extensive inquiries to determine the exact circumstances of the attack.
Preliminary findings suggest that the weapon used may have been a machete. Investigators are also examining the possibility that the assault is linked to tensions between rival groups from different neighbourhoods.
According to early reports, the victim was able to identify some of his attackers, and the case is being treated as part of an ongoing investigation into urban violence and gang-related conflicts in the French capital.
