Strengthening Morocco-Mexico ties: business leaders back sovereignty and economic collaboration
The Mexican Business Coordination Council (CCE), the largest employers' organization in Latin America’s second-largest economy, has expressed its support for Morocco’s territorial integrity and emphasized its commitment to bolstering economic and trade relations with the Kingdom.
“We express our support and solidarity for Morocco’s territorial integrity, as well as our willingness to work together to strengthen commercial ties,” the CCE declared in a statement shared on the social media platform X. The announcement followed a meeting held Wednesday in Mexico City with Rachid Talbi Alami, President of Morocco’s House of Representatives, and Fouad Yazourh, Ambassador and Director General of International Political Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates.
The meeting, chaired by CCE President Francisco Cervantes Diaz, also included Morocco's Ambassador to Mexico, Abdelfettah Lebbar, a delegation of Moroccan parliamentary group leaders accompanying Talbi Alami, and numerous Mexican entrepreneurs from various industries.
Cervantes Diaz, a key business figure in Latin America, underscored Morocco’s significance as “the second-largest trading partner of Mexico in Africa” and highlighted the untapped potential for expanding economic cooperation between the two nations.
During the gathering at the CCE headquarters, Talbi Alami reiterated Morocco’s stance on the Sahara issue, emphasizing that, as stated by King Mohammed VI, this matter remains the lens through which the Kingdom views its international relationships and partnerships. He called on Mexico to align with the growing global support for Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara and its autonomy plan to resolve the regional conflict. Talbi Alami noted that such a position could enable Mexican businesses to better leverage Morocco’s role as a vital gateway to emerging markets in Europe and Africa.
Fouad Yazourh, speaking at the event, welcomed the CCE’s backing of Morocco’s sovereignty and its commitment to fostering stronger economic ties. He praised Cervantes Diaz and the Mexican business community for their readiness to collaborate with the Kingdom to consolidate bilateral trade ties.
The meeting also served as a platform to explore proposals aimed at enhancing Moroccan-Mexican cooperation. Both sides discussed strategies to strengthen commercial links and create new investment opportunities in key sectors, including industry, trade, technology, renewable energy, agribusiness, and logistics.
The Moroccan parliamentary delegation accompanying Talbi Alami included Mohamed Chaouki, President of the National Rally of Independents group; Ahmed Touizi, President of the Authenticity and Modernity group; Rachid Hamouni, President of the Progress and Socialism group; and Abdellah Bouanou, President of the Justice and Development group.
