Search underway after Italian minister's husband goes missing in Lake Vico

Italian emergency services have launched a search operation after Luigi Cavallari, the husband of Italy's Minister for Family, Eugenia Roccella, went missing in Lake Vico, northwest of Rome.

According to Italian media reports, the incident occurred while the couple were on a boat on the lake. Cavallari entered the water and did not resurface, prompting an immediate emergency response.

Divers and emergency teams deployed

Police officers and firefighters, including specialist diving units, were dispatched to the scene shortly after the alarm was raised. Search efforts continued as rescue teams combed the lake in an attempt to locate the missing man.

Authorities have not yet released further information regarding the circumstances surrounding the incident, and the search remains ongoing.

Officials await results of the investigation

Investigators are working to establish the sequence of events that led to the disappearance. At this stage, officials have not announced any conclusions, and the circumstances remain under investigation.

The Italian government has not issued an official statement beyond confirming that emergency services are managing the operation.

Lake Vico attracts visitors year-round

Lake Vico, located about 80 kilometres northwest of Rome in the Lazio region, is a popular destination for boating and outdoor recreation. During the summer months, the lake attracts numerous visitors seeking relief from high temperatures.

Rescue operations on inland lakes often involve coordinated efforts between local police, firefighters and specialized diving teams, particularly when visibility and underwater conditions complicate search activities.

Authorities are expected to provide further updates as the operation progresses.
