Ryad Mezzour Highlights Morocco's Industrial Strengths to a MEDEF Delegation
Morocco continues its strategy to attract international investors. In Rabat, the Minister of Industry and Trade, Ryad Mezzour, welcomed a delegation from the Movement of French Enterprises (MEDEF) to explore new opportunities for economic cooperation and investment between the two countries.
Led by Bruno Jacquemin and Jean-Paul Torris, the French delegation, composed of representatives from companies active in industry, equipment, and energy transition, engaged with Moroccan authorities on sectors considered most promising for the development of industrial partnerships.
Morocco Focuses on High-Value Added Industry
During this meeting, Ryad Mezzour presented the Kingdom's main investment strengths, highlighting the rise of the industrial sector, which contributes approximately 15% to the gross domestic product. Industrial exports now account for more than four-fifths of Morocco's sales abroad, illustrating the gradual transformation of the national production fabric.
The minister also reminded that Morocco pursues an integrated vision centered around food security, sustainable water management, and energy development, in line with the Kingdom's strategic orientations regarding economic sovereignty and sustainable development.
Automotive and Batteries at the Core of the Strategy
The discussions highlighted the performance of the automotive sector, which has become a pillar of the national economy. With a production capacity nearing one million vehicles per year and a local integration rate approaching 70%, the Kingdom confirms its status as the leading automotive exporter on the African continent.
The development of the electric battery sector is also among the industrial priorities. Moroccan authorities noted that an integrated ecosystem is currently being finalized, including the planned commissioning of a gigafactory intended to produce batteries on a large scale, thereby strengthening the country's position in global electric mobility value chains.
Diverse Sectors to Attract Investors
MEDEF representatives also inquired about the prospects offered by several strategic industries, including agri-food, textiles, aerospace, and pharmaceuticals. These sectors, which employ nearly one million people, are major levers for growth and innovation for the national economy.
Through this meeting, Morocco reaffirms its desire to strengthen its economic cooperation with France and accelerate its industrialization. By consolidating its infrastructure, developing high-value-added sectors, and supporting the energy transition, the Kingdom aims to solidify its role as a competitive industrial platform at the crossroads of Europe and Africa.
