Denza considers launching its own financing business in Europe in 2027
Denza, the premium automotive brand owned by Chinese manufacturer BYD, is reportedly considering establishing its own financing operations in Europe in 2027. The initiative would support the company’s efforts to expand its presence in the luxury vehicle segment and compete with established German brands such as BMW and Mercedes-Benz.
Developing in-house financing services could allow Denza to offer customers more flexible purchasing options, including leasing agreements and installment-based vehicle purchases. These arrangements play an important role in Europe’s premium car market, where many buyers rely on monthly payments rather than paying the full cost of a vehicle upfront.
According to Bloomberg, Alfredo Altavilla, a special adviser to BYD in Europe, said preliminary indicators for Denza vehicles’ residual values appear encouraging. These estimates reportedly compare favorably with those of certain competing models, potentially strengthening the business case for launching dedicated financing services.
Residual value—the estimated price of a vehicle at the end of a lease or after a period of use—is a key factor in determining monthly payments and the overall cost of a financing agreement. For contracts that commonly extend over several years, reliable resale-value estimates help financial providers assess risk and structure competitive offers.
However, Denza faces a challenge as it builds its European presence: its relatively short sales history in the region means there is still limited historical data on how its vehicles perform in the second-hand market. This uncertainty could complicate efforts to establish financing terms that are attractive to customers while remaining commercially sustainable.
The proposed expansion comes as Chinese automakers seek to strengthen their position in Europe’s higher-end automotive market. Competing successfully requires more than advanced technology and premium equipment; manufacturers must also address ownership costs, customer service and access to convenient financing.
If Denza moves forward with its plan, controlling more of the financing process could give the brand greater flexibility in designing commercial offers and attracting European buyers. The company’s ability to establish confidence in its vehicles’ long-term resale values will be an important factor in determining how effectively it can challenge established luxury carmakers.
