Morocco Tops Global ICT Development Index

Morocco has secured the top position in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Development Index, as per the latest report from the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) for the year 2023. The country achieved an impressive score of 85.1, surpassing the global average of 72.8 out of 100 and the African average of 47.4.

Morocco's digital excellence is evident across various indicators. The percentage of "Individuals using the internet" far exceeds the global average of 70.5%, recording an outstanding rate of 92.8%. Similarly, "Households with internet access at home" and "3G/4G coverage" display high performances with respective rates of 90.7% and 99.2%, surpassing global averages of 70.8% and 92.5%.

The report also highlights that among the ten economies with an IDI score above 95, four belong to the Arab states, underscoring Morocco's leading position in the region. It is noteworthy that in the Asia-Pacific group, there is a 69-point gap between the most and least performing countries, illustrating the diversity of situations in this region.

The IDI, assessing both universal and meaningful connectivity, showcases Morocco's leadership in both areas. Universal connectivity considers the connectivity of individuals, households, and communities, irrespective of their geographical location, gender, and education level. On the other hand, meaningful connectivity, dependent on factors like infrastructure, financial accessibility, devices, skills, safety, and security, confirms Morocco's ongoing commitment to improving connectivity at all levels.

In conclusion, Morocco celebrates its digital success as a global leader in Information and Communication Technology development, reflecting its continuous commitment to technological advancement and universal access to information technologies.
