Aziz Akhannouch opens national forum on investment and Moroccans abroad in Tangier

Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch opened the national forum on investment and Moroccans living abroad, held under the high patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI. The forum focused on a national strategy to transform diaspora remittances into productive investment that supports growth and job creation.

The government said the policy aims to move financial flows from consumption support toward structured investment that directly contributes to productivity, territorial development and employment. Officials presented Moroccans abroad as a strategic economic force through their savings, skills and international networks.

The forum highlighted recent macroeconomic performance as evidence of resilience. Economic growth reached 4.8% in 2025, up from 1.8% in 2022. Inflation declined to 0.8% from 6.6% over the same period. The budget deficit narrowed to 3.5% from 5.5%, while public debt fell to 67.2% of GDP from above 72%. The current account improved, supported by stronger exports, tourism revenues, remittances and record foreign direct investment inflows in 2025.

Officials said investment reforms accelerated project approvals and improved investor conditions. Since the start of the current government mandate, investment authorities approved 381 projects worth about 581 billion dirhams. These projects are expected to generate more than 245,000 direct and indirect jobs.

Regional investment centers were strengthened and given expanded authority to approve investment agreements below 250 million dirhams, reducing administrative delays and speeding up decision-making at the regional level.

The government also presented reforms to improve the business environment between 2023 and 2026. Authorities reported that about 98% of planned measures were launched and around 72% fully implemented. Administrative requirements were reduced, including a 45% cut in documentation required for investors. Digital platforms now centralize investment procedures and company creation processes, supporting the creation of more than 109,000 new companies in 2025.

Officials said remittances from Moroccans abroad exceeded 122 billion dirhams in 2025. The strategy seeks to channel diaspora capital into productive investment through incentives, support mechanisms and programs including housing initiatives. The objective is to increase the diaspora’s contribution to private investment and strengthen its role in national development.
