Morocco's education reform bill receives cabinet approval

Morocco's cabinet has approved draft law No. 59.21, aimed at reforming the country's education system. Government spokesperson Mustapha Baitas announced the decision on Thursday, highlighting the bill's alignment with the Constitution, directives from King Mohammed VI, and the strategic reform vision for 2015-2030.

Presented by Education Minister Mohamed Saad Berrada, the legislation supports the 2022-2026 education roadmap. This initiative focuses on enhancing basic learning, extracurricular activities, and citizenship education, while also addressing the critical issue of school dropout rates.

Baitas emphasized that the new school model, inspired by the "pioneering institutions" project, aims to boost human capital and provide equal opportunities for quality education across the nation.

Key elements of the draft law include structural and pedagogical reforms that reorganize public schools, introduce preschool classes, and define the role of private institutions in supporting national education objectives. Additionally, the bill addresses funding, governance, and management mechanisms within schools.
