Morocco celebrates dual nominations for CAF National Team of the Year

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced the finalists for the 2025 National Team of the Year award in the men’s category, highlighting Morocco’s dominance with two nominations. Both the senior national team and the U-20 squad have been shortlisted, cementing Morocco’s growing influence in African and global football.

The senior team earned their place with a series of remarkable achievements. Building on their historic 2022 World Cup performance, where they became the first African team to reach the semifinals, the Atlas Lions continued to set records. In 2025, they became the first African nation to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, securing their spot well ahead of schedule. Adding to their accolades, Morocco set a new global record with 16 consecutive wins, surpassing the previous mark held by Spain and Germany. Ranked 12th in FIFA’s world rankings, they remain Africa’s top-ranked team.

Morocco’s U-20 squad made history as well, claiming the FIFA U-20 World Cup title by defeating Argentina 2–0 in the final. This victory marked Morocco’s first world title in football and the first for any Arab nation. They also became only the second African nation to win the tournament, following Ghana’s triumph in 2009.

Morocco’s football legacy continues to grow, having previously won the CAF National Team of the Year award in 2022 and 2023. The women's team was also recognized in 2022, showcasing the country’s advancements in women’s football.

The winners of the 2025 CAF National Team of the Year award will be announced at the CAF Awards ceremony in Rabat on Wednesday, November 19, at 7 p.m. (GMT+1).
