Morocco adopts a national strategy to combat audiovisual piracy
Rabat, December 27, 2025 — Morocco has taken a significant step in the fight against audiovisual piracy by adopting a national strategy aimed at protecting cultural and sports content. The initiative was announced during the country’s first international seminar dedicated to combating illegal audiovisual distribution.
Held in Rabat, the meeting brought together key institutional and professional stakeholders with the support of national and international partners. The discussions resulted in the adoption of a national roadmap designed to strengthen Morocco’s response to audiovisual piracy, a growing challenge for the digital economy and creative industries.
The seminar was organized with the involvement of the Moroccan Copyright Office, alongside international organizations specializing in intellectual property protection and the entertainment industry. Representatives from public authorities, regulatory bodies, cybercrime units, the judiciary, and international partners participated in the event.
Participants emphasized that audiovisual piracy is a complex phenomenon, intersecting with intellectual property law, cybersecurity, organized crime, and consumer protection. With major sporting events scheduled to take place in Morocco in the coming years, including continental and global competitions, speakers stressed the importance of anticipating risks and reinforcing protective measures.
The adopted roadmap focuses on improving coordination between institutions, strengthening legal and technical capacities, and modernizing procedures to block illegal streaming platforms. Preventive actions, such as public awareness campaigns and enhanced protection for consumers and minors, also form a central part of the strategy.
Authorities highlighted that safeguarding audiovisual works is essential for attracting investment, supporting national production, and ensuring fair remuneration for creators. The initiative reflects Morocco’s broader commitment to combating intellectual property violations and positioning itself as a reliable partner at both regional and international levels.
