Moroccan Minister says artificial intelligence can simplify state-citizen relations
Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni stated that artificial intelligence has the potential to improve public administration, simplify interactions between governments and citizens, and strengthen transparency in public services.
Speaking during the opening of an international forum on artificial intelligence, digital transformation, energy, and connectivity in Africa held in Rabat, the Moroccan minister highlighted the growing role of digital technologies in reshaping economies, governance systems, and international competitiveness.
The event was organized in partnership with CAFRAD and brought together officials, experts, and researchers to discuss the future of digital innovation across the African continent.
According to the minister, artificial intelligence can help governments provide faster and more efficient public services while facilitating citizens’ access to essential sectors such as healthcare, education, mobility, and administrative procedures. She also emphasized that digital transformation can improve institutional transparency and strengthen trust between public institutions and citizens.
The minister called for the development of an African vision for artificial intelligence based on digital sovereignty, ethical governance, scientific cooperation, and investment in youth training and technological skills.
She stressed that Africa possesses major advantages in the global digital transition, including a young population, growing innovation ecosystems, and increasing demand for digital public services. Experts believe these factors could position the continent as an important emerging actor in future technological development.
During the forum, participants also discussed challenges associated with artificial intelligence and digital technologies, including cybersecurity threats, cybercrime, energy consumption, technological inequality, and ethical concerns surrounding automated systems.
Coffi Dieudonné Assouvi underlined that AI and digital technologies are transforming modern societies by changing working methods, communication, consumption habits, and public administration models.
International initiatives related to ethical AI governance were also highlighted, including recommendations adopted by UNESCO concerning the responsible use of artificial intelligence.
The forum, which continues until May 13, aims to encourage digital infrastructure development in Africa, strengthen cybersecurity, support renewable energy initiatives, and promote youth training programs focused on technology and innovation.
Observers say Morocco is increasingly positioning itself as a regional hub for digital transformation and artificial intelligence development in Africa through investments in technology, education, and public sector modernization.
