Moroccan innovator secures new Chinese patent for enhanced EV battery safety

Moroccan scientist Rachid Yazami has obtained a new patent in China for his innovative safety technology designed to prevent internal short circuits in electric vehicle (EV) batteries. The patent, originally filed in May 2019, represents a significant advancement in battery safety technology.

Yazami shared the news on social media, highlighting that this technological breakthrough aims to make electric cars safer by preventing battery ignition and explosion incidents that could result in injuries or fatalities.

During the Global Industry 4.0 2023 event in Casablanca, Yazami discussed with Morocco World News the critical importance of addressing safety concerns in electric batteries. He emphasized the need for batteries that can withstand extreme environmental conditions, particularly in markets where temperatures can exceed 50 degrees Celsius.

Currently, Yazami is working on enhancing lithium-ion battery stability to ensure reliable performance at temperatures up to 90 degrees Celsius, which he describes as a significant technological and scientific challenge.

This marks Yazami's second Chinese patent in the field of lithium battery technology. His first Chinese patent, awarded in December, focused on EV battery fast-charging techniques. Additionally, in February 2024, he secured his first Japanese patent for the same fast-charging technology, applicable to both electronic devices and electric vehicles.

These developments align with Morocco's expanding presence in the electric vehicle industry and renewable energy sector, as global efforts intensify to address climate change impacts. The patents demonstrate continued innovation in EV battery technology, focusing on both safety and charging efficiency improvements.
