Man interrupts Japanese emperor’s New Year greeting by appearing nude

During the traditional New Year greeting at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo, a man in his twenties disrupted the ceremony by stripping naked in front of Emperor Naruhito, Empress Masako, and the gathered crowd, Japanese media reported.

The incident occurred as the emperor and empress appeared on the palace balcony to address thousands of well-wishers waving Japanese flags. According to reports, the man shouted loudly before climbing over the front barrier while fully unclothed. He was quickly restrained by Imperial Guard and Tokyo police officers and covered with a blanket.

Sources cited by local broadcaster TBS indicated that the man had previously posted on social media about his plan to appear nude during the New Year greetings. The Imperial Household Agency did not immediately confirm the details of the incident.

Although the Japanese imperial family has no political power since the end of World War II, it remains a deeply respected symbol of the nation, with members generally enjoying public admiration despite occasional media controversies.
