Kenya Airways reports $138 million pre-tax loss in 2025
Kenya Airways has reported a pre-tax loss of approximately $138 million for the year 2025, marking a significant downturn after returning to profitability the previous year.
The airline indicated that declining revenues played a major role in the negative results. Total income dropped notably compared to 2024, when the company had achieved its first pre-tax profit in over a decade.
According to company officials, operational challenges also contributed to the weaker performance. Several long-haul aircraft, including Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner jets, were temporarily grounded due to global supply chain disruptions, limiting capacity on key international routes.
Financial conditions in 2024 had been boosted by favorable currency movements, as the Kenyan shilling strengthened significantly against the U.S. dollar. However, the absence of similar gains in 2025 added pressure to the airline’s financial position.
Despite the setback, Kenya Airways remains one of Africa’s leading carriers and continues efforts to stabilize its operations and improve long-term profitability in a challenging global aviation environment.
