Casablanca Stock Exchange Opens Higher as MASI Gains 0.59%
The Casablanca Stock Exchange began Monday’s trading session, October 26, 2026, on a positive note, with its main benchmark advancing 0.59% to 17,154.15 points. The upward movement extended across the market’s principal indices, although individual stocks recorded contrasting performances.
Major Market Indices Start the Session in Positive Territory
The MASI, Morocco’s benchmark stock market index, led the opening session with a gain of 0.59%. Other indicators also moved higher, reflecting broad-based gains across different segments of the listed market.
The MASI 20, which tracks the 20 most liquid stocks on the exchange, rose 0.58% to 1,249.20 points. Meanwhile, the MASI ESG index, which follows companies with strong environmental, social and governance ratings according to Moody’s ESG Solutions, advanced 1.09% to 1,263.53 points.
Smaller and medium-sized listed companies also benefited from the positive opening. The MASI Mid and Small Cap index climbed 0.60% to 1,642.53 points.
The simultaneous gains across these benchmarks indicate that the session’s initial momentum extended beyond the market’s largest and most actively traded companies.
Jet Contractors and Taqa Morocco Lead Individual Stock Gains
Several listed companies posted significant advances during the opening session, with Jet Contractors recording the strongest increase among the leading performers.
The construction group gained 5.07%, reaching 1,575 Moroccan dirhams per share. Taqa Morocco followed with a rise of 3.93% to 1,694 dirhams, while Ciments du Maroc advanced 3.35% to 1,449 dirhams.
Other notable increases included Vicenne, which climbed 3.33% to 310 dirhams, and IB Maroc.com, which gained 3% to 51.50 dirhams.
These movements placed companies from different business segments among the session’s strongest performers, highlighting the varied sources of buying momentum on the Moroccan market.
Several Stocks Move Against the Market Trend
Despite the generally positive opening, some companies faced downward pressure. Cartier Saada registered the steepest decline among the main laggards, falling 4.09% to 18.51 dirhams per share.
CIH Bank also came under pressure, losing 4.07% to 305.05 dirhams. Zellidja S.A. dropped 3.89% to 221.05 dirhams, while Med Paper declined 3.81% to 21.45 dirhams.
Afriquia Gaz completed the list of the five largest opening-session decliners, shedding 2.33% to reach 3,601 dirhams.
The divergence between rising market indices and falling individual shares underscores the importance of examining company-level performance alongside the overall direction of the exchange.
Investors Watch the Market’s Next Direction
Monday’s positive opening followed a weaker session on Friday, when the MASI closed down 0.47%. The latest advance therefore marks a recovery at the start of the new trading week, although the opening figures alone do not establish whether the market will sustain its gains through the close.
The performance of the main indices, together with movements in individual stocks, will remain important indicators for investors assessing the direction of Morocco’s equity market.
For now, the Casablanca Stock Exchange has started the week on firmer ground, with gains across its principal benchmarks offset by continued volatility among individual listed companies.
