Gard: Young man shot dead near a restaurant in Alès
A 22-year-old man was shot dead late Thursday night while sitting in his car near a fast-food restaurant at the entrance of Alès, in the Gard region, police sources told AFP.
The incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. in the restaurant’s parking lot and may be linked to a drug trafficking case, according to one of the sources who spoke on condition of anonymity.
The victim’s vehicle was parked with the headlights on and the engine running when another car approached. The occupants opened fire at close range, hitting the young man three times in the head. Emergency services arrived shortly afterward but could only confirm his death.
A young woman identifying herself as the victim’s girlfriend, who was in the car at the time, and another woman who was nearby, managed to flee. Both were later taken into custody for questioning but are not considered suspects at this stage, police said.
The shooters remain at large, and an investigation is underway. The Alès public prosecutor’s office has been notified but has not yet commented on the case.
