Fuel allowance simulator launched to help commuters check eligibility
France has launched an online simulator allowing workers to check whether they are eligible for a new fuel allowance designed to support low-income commuters who travel long distances for work.
The initiative, announced by the government and confirmed through an official decree published in the national legal register, aims to ease the financial burden of rising fuel costs for so-called “high-mileage workers” affected by increased transport expenses.
According to the Minister for Public Action and Accounts, David Amiel, the official application form will open on May 27, while the eligibility simulator is already available on the tax administration website. The tool allows users to input their income level to determine whether they qualify for the €50 fuel support payment.
Authorities explained that eligibility depends primarily on household income and commuting distance, targeting workers who rely heavily on personal vehicles for daily transport. Applicants will later need to provide identification details, tax information, vehicle registration numbers, and confirm their usage conditions.
The measure was first introduced in late April as part of broader efforts to address the impact of rising energy prices on household budgets. Officials say the digital simulator is intended to simplify access to public aid and reduce administrative delays.
The scheme will remain open for a limited period, during which eligible citizens can submit their applications through the official government tax portal.
