Frankfurt police foil alleged contract killing plot, five young suspects detained
German law enforcement authorities have arrested five young men suspected of planning a series of alleged contract killings in Frankfurt, preventing what investigators believe could have escalated into multiple targeted murders.
The operation, carried out last Friday in Frankfurt, the largest city in the state of Hesse, was announced jointly by Frankfurt's Customs Investigation Service and the Hesse State Criminal Police Office (LKA). Officials said the suspects were taken into custody before the alleged plan could be carried out.
According to investigators, the group, whose members are between 18 and 19 years old, is suspected of organizing the killing of as many as three individuals through a hired gunman. Authorities have not disclosed the identities of the intended targets or the possible motive behind the alleged plot, citing the ongoing investigation.
During a series of searches linked to the case, officers seized two firearms, approximately 50 rounds of ammunition and several items considered relevant to the investigation. Among the recovered evidence were video-recording glasses that investigators believe may have been intended to document the planned attacks. Police also confiscated around 300 grams of hashish.
The suspects include two German nationals as well as three individuals from Poland, Bulgaria and Croatia. Following requests from prosecutors, all five appeared before an investigating judge and were placed in pre-trial detention pending further judicial proceedings.
German authorities have provided few additional details while the investigation continues. Officials say the inquiry remains active as investigators seek to establish the full scope of the alleged conspiracy, identify any additional participants and determine whether the group maintained links to wider criminal networks.
The arrests underscore the continued focus of German law enforcement agencies on disrupting violent criminal activity at an early stage, using coordinated intelligence and investigative operations to prevent serious offenses before they occur.
